Learning Strategies used by AP5 Students

The key to success in anything is effective strategies.   If we do things just blindly and by habit,  we may be lucky and stumble into success, but it is more likely that we will fail or be just mediocre.   To be excellent in what we do requires strategies that work  well -- there must be a "fit" for each person and the context in which they are functioning.

Here are some of the strategies noted by AP5 students at the beginning of this semester.  Are you familiar with these?  Some can be considered macro strategies and other micro strategies.    Maybe you can try some new strategies to add to your learning efforts.

  • Organize and take advantage of time/finish homework on time
  • Paraphrase notes
  • Review and practice after  class
  • Prepare for lessons before class/preview materials
  • Balance work and  rest
  • Organize knowledge
  • Focus on weaknesses
  • Find mistakes and correct them
  • Collaborate with others
  • Ask questions
  • Use English as much as possible
  • Use self-control
  • Take notes and review/organize them after class
  • Get up earlier to prepare for the day/Don't stay up too late
  • Try to think and understand more deeply
  • Use a coloured pen for visual impact
  • Make learning interesting
  • Apply what you learn
  • Use pictures and story

  2. Be organized
  3. Be original
  4. Be strategic and think (don't be a captive to habit)
  5. Use others
  6. Notice

And finally,  remember

KPAME

  • Knowledge of yourself and the world
