Computer Lab #1

 

Good morning students.


You have 6 main tasks for this lab:

1. Take a vocabulary assessment
2. In pairs,  make a blogger blog
3. Explore some other blogs,  and collaboratively write a review of one.
4. Write individual blog posts.
5. Complete the e-mail assignment (see handout)
6. In your groups,  download and view the video of your presentation last Friday.  Complete a peer/self evaluation to hand in on Wednesday.

1.  First,  I want you to take a vocabulary test to assess your vocabulary knowledge.  It is important in these tests NOT to click  ”reset test”.

When you are finished,  click ”score”.   Please write your scores for the  tests on the sheet your teacher gives you after each test.


i.  Go to   http://www.lextutor.ca/tests/levels/recognition/1k/test_1.html and take the test.   Record your score when you are done.

ii.  Go to    http://www.lextutor.ca/tests/levels/recognition/2_10k/ and take the tests for Level 2000, Level 3000 and Level 5000 and University Word List.   Record your score after each test.  When you are finished, please give your assessment sheet  to Les.


2.    Go to blogger.com and with your google ID and password,  create a blog.   Les can help you.  You need a Google account to do this.  
           *  Give your blog a memorable name
           *  In Design,   choose a template
           *  Also in Design/Settings/Permissions,  allow both partners to be blog authors
           *  In Layout,  add4-5 gadgets.  Add links and a blogroll.  A counter is nice too. Explore and        
               experiment.

3.   Explore some other blogs (not websites) on topics that interest you.    Together,  find a blog you like, 
     and in a joint post to your blog, include a link,  a summary of the blog and the reasons why you like it.
     You can include a picture too.   You should emulate this blog in some ways. This will be blog post #1.
  
4.   Individually,  I want you to each write a blog post describing your goals for AP5.   Particularly,  I want
      you to write about the strategies you will employ to succeed in completing these goals.
     It is best to work on separate computers for this task.  Remember to sign your post so I know who
     wrote it.

5.   Complete the e-mail writing assignment.   This is due on Friday.    Please e-mail me and hand in a hard
      copy of the e-mail.

6.   In your groups,  download and view the video of your presentation last Friday.  You will find the video
      on the VIU share drive ("W" drive).    It is in .mov format,  so you need a good program to read it.
      MS MediaPlayer is not and will not!   I recommend VLC player.   View together and  complete a
      peer/self evaluation to hand in on Wednesday.



If you haven’t enough time,  you will have to complete these tasks on your own/together during the week.   Have fun.
